Active Events Mobile Application

Project Description

The main purpose of the Active Events mobile application is to help attendees quickly search, schedule and locate sessions while in attendance at events and coventions. The application also acted as a source of news, contained maps and exhibitor floor data. It allowed attendees to rate sessions, speakers and send messages to other attendees and make updates to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

My Role

I was the primary UX and visual designer while working on the mobile team at Active. I was responsible for wireframes, design and icon creation, I wrote and built several responsive base templates and worked with the team to refine the user experience of the base application. I also collaborated with java developers, the team lead and coordinated with business analysts to design, customize and publish over fifty applications for corporate events and conventions.

Project Overview

The Active mobile app came about as a push from one of our clients wanting a mobile solution for their events. The team started with two people and quickly became one of the more popular applications available to our clients. The app code base was written with Javascript using HTML 5 and CSS3. Designed with cross platform capability in mind the app was completely responsive, it was able to be used as a stand alone web app or wrapped and published for IOS or Android.

Sketches

Every project for me begins with sketches. This one was no different. I started with pen and paper to map user flow, work out search, section and menu detais while collaborating with my team.

Wireframes

After solidifying user flow and specific page details I moved onto wireframes and prototypes. All prototypes were created from scratch with html, css and javascript.

Hi-Resolution

After several prototypes and wireframe iterations I was able to create the hi-resolution images that would be used as a base theme for all futrure products and clients.

Completed Products

Once the base mobile product was complete I used it to theme and customize all future client applications. During my time on the mobile team we published over 50 conference and event apps, each for both iOS and Android.
